Muskogee Public Schools’ Rougher Alternative Academy (RAA) has been awarded a 2015 Champions Grant from the Jimmie Johnson Foundation. RAA will receive $27,964 to develop a student produced morning news show. RAA will incorporate a visual arts class into the schedule, and the grant covers the equipment and supplies that will be necessary to get the class started, said RAA Principal Steve Barton.
The grant request was written by Director of Secondary Education Melony Carey, who said “We appreciate the Johnsons’ commitment to providing quality educational opportunities in our hometown. It is having an impact on our schools that reaches to better facilities, better technology tools, and a more enriched education for our young people.”
“I am excited for this opportunity. I believe that this will fit with our students and the curriculum that we offer here at RAA,” Barton said. “Many thanks to Mrs. Carey for starting this process and to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation for this tremendous opportunity.”
The Jimmie Johnson Foundation will make a special presentation at RAA, located at 600 Altamont St., at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4.
